Restorative and Thai

This workshop is an excellent introduction to discover the benefits of Thai Massage and Wall Yoga. These modalities help us transition out of our sympathetic nervous system (fight, flight, or freeze) and into our parasympathetic system (rest and digest). Thai Massage is a technique that combines yoga and massage, providing passive, assisted stretching to improve flexibility and mobility. Wall Yoga uses the wall for support in restorative poses where we hold poses for an extended period of time, so props will be used as needed. Clients report an overall sense of calm and peace, while also gaining flexibility and a deeper, fuller breath.

We will begin with legs up the wall and transition onto the floor where gentle adjustments will be incorporated throughout the class along with aromatherapy. During an extended Savasana (30-45 minute), Naomi will offer Thai Massage.

If you’re in need of some quality self care, this workshop is for you!

Naomi Bourassa has been a Licensed Massage Therapist and Yoga Instructor since 2004 specializing in Thai Massage and Hatha Yoga.

Sound Bath for Anxiety Relief

This Sound Bath for Anxiety is led by Laura Marino. Here are some frequently asked questions about Sound Baths.

Q: What are sound baths?

A: Sound baths are defined as an immersion in sound frequency through a specific instrument in this case singing bowls.

Q: Why call it a “bath”?

A: People often describe the experience as being submerged in sound, like the sound waves created by the Tibetan singing bowls are a visceral thing and they are washed in waves of water. They use words like “cleansed” and “cleared” to describe their experience. But we advise you to leave your rubber ducky at home.

Q: What can I do to prepare for my sound bath?

A: Go on YouTube and listen to a recording of singing bowls. While it’s nowhere near the same experience as hearing it live, it’ll give you a better understanding of what to expect from the class. Get there as early as possible so you can get comfortable with the space and calm your breathing, allowing the relaxation process to begin. We also encourage people to wear something comfortable and to stay hydrated. Sound waves carry on water, and the more hydrated you are, the more likely the frequencies will have a penetrating effect.

Q: Once I am there, what can I do to get the most out of my experience?

A: Follow your intuition. If you feel the urge to stand, please do. If you need to yawn, yawn — open up that tense face of yours. We encourage you to fidget and allow your body to do what it wants. Have a clear intention of why you are there and keep it at the forefront of your mind. Is it to let go of the stress of the week or experience a clarity on maybe something that has been nagging you? Remember to bring yourself back to that intention if you feel your mind starting to stray.

Q: What if I fall asleep?

A: It’s our intention that you stay present because these frequencies you are being exposed to can be takeaway tools. For example, if you hear a sound that resonates positively with you, you can remember it or take it with you, even hum it at your desk the next time you’re stressed out. That being said, very few people completely conk out. There is something about it that keeps them right on the edge of the veil — that lucid, dreamlike state right before you fall asleep.

Obtaining a massage therapy license in York, Pennsylvania, from the Baltimore School of Massage (now Cortiva Institute), and developing her practice in Orlando, Florida, Laura Marino has been in practice massage since 2011. Laura's years of experience and curiosity for the optimal service to heal not only her clients but also herself lead to learning Vibrational Sound Therapy - the missing ingredient she had been looking for. Combining vibrational sound therapy with modalities such as Swedish, deep tissue, sports, and a clinical approach, Laura has merged these disciplines into a unique blend suited to the individual. The mixture of touch therapy with the soothing vibrations of the singing bowls, has brought Laura and her clients a rewarding and fulfilling experience.

Laura knows all too well that the daily stresses in life can become overwhelming to the body and mind, and believes that this sound experience can help alleviate many of your worries and reconnect you back to your Vital Essence.

Yoga for Bone Health

Yoga for Bone Health is a program that follows Dr. Loren Fishman’s method of 12 asanas that have been proven to be effective in stimulating bone growth, preventing bone loss, and reversing osteopenia and even osteoporosis.

Pamela Ocana, M. A., our certified experienced Yoga teacher, educator, and therapist, completed this training with Dr. Fishman. Pamela is qualified to teach his method which includes three variations for each pose: The first level is for those already with osteoporosis, and many props (chair, wall, straps, blocks and the teacher’s assistance) are used to keep the student safe. The intermediate level is for those with osteopenia, and some props are used for safety sake. In the advanced level, the student will be performing the free, full poses. This level is meant as prevention.

Everyone will benefit from this training: the healthy building even stronger bones; and those who are starting the process of deterioration and bone mass
loss, from osteopenia to osteoporosis.

Class will be inclusive for students of all levels.
Yoga therapy. No side effects. Only benefits.

Join us as everyone learns how to build and maintain healthy, stronger bones!

Inner Journey Through Meditation

In response to our dear students’ requests, our Live Oak Teacher, Pamela Ocana, M.A., E-500 RYT, C-Yoga Therapist, will be offering her 2019 Workshop Series:  “Inner Journeys Through Meditation”.  These workshops will be held on Saturdays, close to the four main equinoxes of the year, as we pursue to harmonize and maximize the micro with the macrocosms.

The first workshop will be offered on Saturday, March 23rd starting at 6 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m. This Spring Meditation will include an introduction to what exactly is meditation within Raja Yoga, as well as its many researched benefits.  We will then have a short Chair Yoga class to prepare the body and mind to release and be able to approach stillness, followed by the Practice of:  Meditation in Mindfulness, preparing ourselves for Spring, the beautiful season of new beginnings.

This workshop will be followed by three other fascinating workshops, deepening the practice and exploring other techniques.  You are welcome to save these following dates as they are currently planned for June 22, September 21, and December 14th.

The investment for each workshop is $35 per person, $50 per couple.  In order to preserve individualized attention, Pamela’s classes and workshops are capped at 8 students.

If you are one to be interested in the practice of meditation, we highly encourage you not to miss this foundational workshop.

Restorative and Thai
